The challenge
- Most developer YouTube is too long, too slow, and made by people who haven’t shipped production code in years. The channels engineers actually subscribe to can be counted on one hand.
- We’re building one of them.
- Better Stack is made by engineers, for engineers. Our CTO, CEO, and COO all still write code. The channel has to match that bar.
- Technical depth mid-to-senior developers respect. Production quality that stops the scroll. A point of view worth twelve minutes of their day.
- We don’t think of YouTube as a marketing channel. We think of it as a product.
What you’ll do
- Own videos end-to-end: idea → script → film → edit → thumbnail → title → publish. No handoffs.
- Be on camera. Solo videos, and alongside the rest of the advocate team.
- Ship both long-form (news, deep dives, comparisons) and Shorts.
- Pick topics mid-to-senior developers actually search for and click on – observability, debugging, infra, languages, the tools they’re evaluating on a Tuesday afternoon.
- Live in the analytics. Retention graphs, CTR, A/B’d thumbnails – every video makes the next one better.
- Use Claude Code, Cursor, or other AI tools for scripting, code demos, and post-production – and know when to do it by hand.
This might be for you if
- YouTube is your hobby. You already make videos. There’s a channel we can watch today, even if it’s small.
- You love playing with new tech. A new AI model drops, a new JS framework lands, a new language hits 1.0 – you’ve already cloned the repo and you’re thinking about the video.
- You’re an engineer first. You can build the demo, read the stack trace, and hold a take that survives the comment section.
- You’re comfortable on camera. You’ve already put in the reps. Not "open to learning" – already doing it.
- You think most developer YouTube is bad. And you have specific opinions about why yours won’t be.
- You read the retention graph before the comments. Analytics shape the next video, not vibes.
- You value speed and pragmatism. You know which 5% of a video to cut to make it 100x better.
- You prefer fewer meetings and more doing instead. Async tools, clear briefs, more time in the edit.
- You want to help us build a love brand.
Who you’ll work with
- Juraj, our co-founder & CEO, who has been shipping products since he was selling burnt CDs in Bratislava.
- The rest of the advocate team – all on camera, all shipping. You’ll co-host, swap feedback on cuts, and trade thumbnail ideas in Slack.
Where to go next?
- Watch the channel. If you wouldn’t subscribe, don’t apply.
- What it’s like to work here – feel the atmosphere, understand the culture.
